Thomas
Mullen is the author of The Last Town on Earth, which was
named Best Debut Novel of 2006 by USA Today, was a Chicago
Tribune Best Book of the Year, and was awarded the James
Fenimore Cooper Prize for excellence in historical fiction. FoxTale
is honored to host a book signing for Mullen's newest novel, The
Many Deaths of the Firefly Brothers.
In award-winning author
Thomas Mullen's evocative new novel, we follow the depression-era
adventures of Jason and Whit Fireson—bank robbers known as the
Firefly Brothers by the press, the authorities, and an adoring
public that worships their acts as heroic counterpunches thrown at a
broken system.
Late one night in August
1934, following a yearlong spree of bank robberies across the
Midwest, the Firefly Brothers are forced into a police shootout and
die . . . for the first time.
Help us give this author a
Woodstock welcome!__________________________________

TERRY KAY
SUNDAY, FEB. 28TH
Writer's Workshop
& Booksigning
FoxTale is pleased to offer a Writer's Workshop led by the
award-winning, legendary author Terry Kay. Perhaps his most
well-known book is To Dance with the White Dog, which was made into
a Hallmark Hall of Fame television movie starring Hume Cronyn and
Jessica Tandy. Kay's novel, The Valley of Light, won the 2004
Townsend Prize for Fiction. He won the 1981 Georgia Author of the
Year Award for After Eli, and the Southeastern Library Association
named him Outstanding Author of the Year in 1991 for To Dance with
the White Dog. He won a Southern Emmy Award in 1990 for his
teleplay, Run Down the Rabbit and received the Appalachian Heritage
Writers Award in 2006. Also in '06, Kay was inducted into the
Georgia Writers' Hall of Fame.
"The
DNA of Writing: Tips and Tricks Not Likely to be Found in a
Classroom"
Workshop Time: 1:00 - 4:00 PM
Cost: $90 Payment required when
making reservation
Terry's workshop recognizes what he calls "the DNA of writing" - the
power of verbs and the understanding of rhythm - plus the use of
outlining to create the flow of ideas. Kay's workshop will focus on
the practical applications of writing creatively (how one thinks
about it). Unlike anything you've heard in a typical writing class,
Kay's instruction is based on experience - his own and what he has
gleaned from incredibly gifted writers he has met throughout his
career. From fiction to memoir to business writing and everything in
between, The DNA of Writing provides writers with useful tricks of
the trade (taught by the man who has used them all.)
Booksigning: 4:15-5:30
Cost: Free
(Kay will sign only books purchased at FoxTale)
Kay's novels include:
The Year the Lights Came On (1976)
To Dance with the White Dog (1990)
Shadow Song (1994)
The Runaway (1997)
The Kidnapping of Aaron Greene (1999)
Taking Lottie Home (2000)
The Valley of Light (2003)
The Book of Marie (2007)__________________________________

Atlanta Release Party
Saturday, March 6 (Time TBA)
for Karen Spears Zacharias' newest
book, Will Jesus Buy Me a Doublewide? ('Cause I Need More Room
for my Plasma TV.)

"If the
prosperity gospel had a heart, Karen has stomped that
sucker flat. Scouring the back roads between Portland,
OR and Pinehurst, NC, Karen spins stories of
unforgettable characters including the two-fingered
Ambassador and the nearly-bankrupt Bookseller. Each
encounter will test your heart and mind, pushing you
into a conversation often avoided. Whether you live in a
mansion on a cliff, a shack by still waters, or in a
single-wide on cinder blocks, this is a worthy
read.”--William Paul Young, author, The Shack
“I have been a
‘have’ and a ‘have not’ in my life. I have found in my
walk with the Lord, as Karen illustrates so well in
these beautiful stories, that the riches he desires for
us have nothing to do with money. I love a writer that's
not afraid to walk with real people and speak the truth
of their lives.”--Jeff Foxworthy
Author Karen
Spears Zacharias believes Christians have been paying
good money for a false doctrine: the Cash and Cadillac
Gospel. With humor and wit in Will Jesus Buy Me a
Double-Wide?, Zacharias unpacks story after story of
those who use the name of God as a means to living their
own good life, as well as some unlikely folks whose
genuine faith has led them to a different understanding
of wealth.
