Description

In the absence of full-length texts on actor-director coaching for the stage, Forrest Sears aims to fill the gap with his book, Director Actor Coach: Solutions for Director/Actor Challenges. With a friendly, informal tone and easy-to-understand concepts and exercises, it's geared toward those involved in college- and university-level theatre arts programs, and presents an attractive supplement to the traditional instructional methods utilized in both first- and second-year directing courses.

About the Author

Forrest Sears received an MFA in directing from the Yale School of Drama and began a five-decade career, directing some 130 productions. He co-founded the Sears-Whiteside Acting Studio and Repertory Theatre in San Francisco. Later, he joined the company of the Pittsburg Playhouse as an actor, director and acting teacher in their professional training program.
Professor Sears then enjoyed an award-winning career at the University of Idaho, where he chaired the acting and directing programs. He received multiple awards from the American College Theatre Festival. Five of his productions were selected and performed at ACTF Regional Festivals. Four of his students were national Irene Ryan recipients, honored in their performances at the Kennedy Center.
Sears was presented with the Mayor Award in Arts education and the University of Idaho's Teacher of the year award. He has taught abroad for the Canterbury Drama League in Timaru, New Zealand and presented a course in American Method Acting at the professional Actor Training School in Tampere, Finland. Recently, Forrest was presented with the Kennedy Center Gold Medallion KCACTF Award for his lifetime service and contribution in Theatre.
